FAQs - Bismarck Wood Staining Company, Precision Wood Finish

Q. What are the hours of your shipping & receiving dock?

A. No. Our dock is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. If you need any time outside of this range, please call our office and we will try to be as accommodating as possible. We ask that you bring blankets to wrap your doors, so they don’t slide around & get scratched. We do NOT recommend cardboard as this can scratch the doors. We do wrap all stained trim in plastic wrap. Painted trim is wrapped with wax paper and plastic wrap for protection.

Q. Do you require a deposit when contracting with your company?

A. For large projects, we do require 20% down for residential customers.

Q. What are some of the things you paint, stain or finish?

A.
  • Windows
  • Patio doors
  • Fiberglass entry systems
  • Metal entry systems
  • Trim packs, i.e. base, case, moldings, door slabs, door jambs & stair parts
  • Cabinets, cabinet boxes, face frames and cabinet doors
  • Exterior siding
  • Specialty items, i.e. table tops, bar tops, shelving, wood or metal decorative items, etc.

Q. Can you match our stain from what we currently have installed?

A. Yes, we can. We do ask that you bring in a sample of the trim for us to color match. If you have any old leftover stain or the brand and color, that is also helpful. We will also need a sample of the actual wood we will be staining, to do the stain match on. Sometimes certain colors require us to use an outside establishment for stain matching. Stain matches are charged an additional $60.

Q. Can you paint or refinish my old furniture?

A. We can and have done furniture for clients. But if there has been lemon oil, murphy oil or Pledge applied to the furniture surfaces, then we don’t recommend refinishing the furniture. It really comes down to how much time and money you want to invest into it.

Q. If I have different species of wood for my doors and baseboard, will the stain look different?

A. Absolutely. Stain takes differently to each species of wood. Your best bet would be to get the same species of wood for your entire project. For example: if you are getting knotty alder doors, you should also get knotty alder baseboards and casing. Don’t expect having two different species of wood to have the same color.

Q. Do you provide the paint or stain?

A. We typically provide the paint or stain for your project. We have several colors in stock and are also able to get specific colors that you can choose from any one of our local paint stores. We will return any unused paint or stain to you. We ask that if you do have another project in the future that you are using the same colors, that you please bring this back with your job so that we may use them. Otherwise we will have to charge for additional stain or paint.

Q. When is payment due?

A. Payment is due when you pick up your completed material. If we are delivering, we ask that it is paid before it is delivered. You can stop in the office with check, cash or credit card (processing fees apply). You can pay online through ACH or Venmo. You can also call our office and we will process your credit card payment over the phone (processing fees apply).

Q. Can you provide a quote for painting or staining?

A. Absolutely. Click on the “Request FREE Estimate” link and fill out the form. If you have a pictures or mill sheet with quantities and sizes, please attached it. Or you can call our office for pricing over the phone.

Q. How long will it take to complete my work?

A. There are several factors that go into projecting when we will have it completed. We typically try to get things through the shop in less than two weeks. But there are several things to take into consideration: the size of the project, when our employees take vacation or possibly they’re sick, employee family emergencies, etc. If anyone of these occur, it does affect our overall schedule. If we foresee that we cannot meet your deadline, we will give you as much notice as possible. We pride ourselves with having excellent communication with our clients!

Q. Do you install cabinets or trim work?

A. No, we do not install them. We paint or finish them in our shop.

Q. Can you come into our home and paint our existing trim or cabinets?

A. We are a division of The Painters Inc. and we can arrange for them to come into your home. If you are interested in getting an estimate scheduled, please call our office.

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. Precision Wood Finish has been operating in the Bismarck/Mandan area since 1994. We are a family-owned and operated company which occupies a spacious 7,600 square foot facility in Bismarck with two full spray booths.

Q. Do you do background checks or drug testing on your employees?

A. Yes, job applicants have had an extensive background check as well as a pre-employment drug test prior to being offered employment with our company.
